Reading: We will be reading “Ken and Jen” and focusing on the “_ug” word family.
Words of the Week: he/she
Math: Students are practicing different ways to solve and explain their reasoning of different mathematical word problems through the use of ten frames, number lines, tally marks, subitizing and manipiulatives. They will also continue to focus on studying the geometry of solid shapes (sphere, cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism).
Writer’s Workshop: We are beginning the process of writing “How To” stories in which students teach others how to do something through their writing. This week we introduced the concept by reading about and brainstorming ways to be a good friend. The students are learning about the sentence starters: “First”, “Next” and “Last” and are practicing how to write stories in sequential order. Their “How to be a good friend” stories were sent home today in their folders. We were very impressed with the neat handwriting of this assignment- thank you for helping your child practice this concept at home! They will begin a new “How to” story next week.
Permission slips have been sent home with your child for our upcoming fieldtrip to Natural Bridges on Monday, Dec 18 where we will observe and study monarch butterflies. Please let us know if your permission slip didn't make it's way home and we can send a new one.
There is a school-wide spirit day on Wednesday, Dec 20th: “Ugly Sweater Day”! In Kindergarten, we will not be calling it “Ugly” sweater day, just festive winter/holiday theme, so xmas sweaters, Santa hats, snowman/winter flare, ect are encouraged J
Have a great weekend,
Zoe Skognes and Brenda Christensen
